I’m using the Overlay function of this plugin to show image sources on my content images but this weird thing happened. I inserted a stock photo downloaded from Pixabay and when I tried to use the plugin with this photo, it just doesn’t work. I paste the image link into Image Source ULR field, I write “Pixabay” in Image Source field and after the info is saved, nothing shows on the photo in my post. I try to update it directly on the Media Library, I try to update it from the setting of the plugin, but after I hit Save button then refresh, the info on Image Source field disappears again, therefore, no source/credit is shown on the picture in my post (because the field is empty now). None of this has happened to other images from other sources, I wonder if ISC singles out Pixabay for some reason?

FYI, this is the Pixaby image I use https://pixabay.com/photos/victorian-house-old-architecture-1269908/

    Hello @sarah9303

    Thank you for reaching out!
I tried to replicate what you described in a staging setup, using Pixabay as “Image Source” and https://pixabay.com/photos/victorian-house-old-architecture-1269908/ as “Image Source URL”. It works in the Twenty Twenty-Two theme that I used—the source in the Overlay displays as expected.

Image Source Control doesn’t filter what you put into the source or URL fields, I can assure you. But I wonder if you might have accidentally pasted strange content into any of the two fields.

Hence, could you please provide me with the following info:

    1. Which version of Image Source Control are you using? You can see this in Plugins > Installed Plugins on the entry for Image Source Control.
    2. Are both the source field and the URL field for that image in your Media Library empty after saving the changes? Or do they contain the info you’ve just put in there?
    3. If possible, please provide a link to the post where the image with “broken” source info is placed.
    4. Please paste the two exact strings that you try to put into the source field and the URL field into your reply, making sure to put it into “CODE” tags here in the forum’s reply field.

This should hopefully help me to better help you. Thank you!

    Hello @sarah9303

Are you still having trouble getting the Overlay to display on your image from Pixabay? Or maybe you would like me to rephrase my questions?

For starters, it would be most helpful to get a link to the page where the problem is observable. Simply copy the address in your browser’s address bar while looking at the page and post it in a reply here.
If we’re lucky, I can analyze the problem in that page’s source code.

I’d still be more than happy to help, I just need a bit more specific information on your case. Thank you!

@galanos Hi, sorry for the late reply, I didn’t notice the email notification for the thread.

    1. I’m using Version 2.7.0 of Image Source Control

    2. Are both the source field and the URL field for that image in your Media Library empty after saving the changes? –> No, only the Image Source field was empty, the Image Source URL retained the link I pasted in.

    3. If possible, please provide a link to the post where the image with “broken” source info is placed.
I can but because of the issue, I converted the 2 photos that had the issue with ISC to a different format (.jpg to .png) and re-uploaded them to my Media Library so now ISC works OK with the two re-formatted photos and sources were displayed as usual.

I’m just worried that the issue might happen again in other posts and if I don’t pay attention to fix it, it’ll be missing sources.

    Hello @sarah9303

Thank you for your reply. Not a problem, I just really wanted to help you solve this and maybe find out if there is a general issue with our plugin, so I decided to inquire.

It’s great that you’ve found an interim solution that works. Still, it’d be good to sort this out, for both of us.

This is quite peculiar. Since I can’t replicate your exact conditions, could I maybe ask you to insert the JPEGs of those images in an old post that’s not visited very often and set a source and source URL, then post the link here? Just for a few days, so we can observe this in isolation?
If you’re worried about legalities, I propose just adding the source and link to the creator in the images’ captions for that time.

    Thank you in advance!

Is there any way to send the link to you via private messages? I inserted the old pictures in the post (the second and third pictures under the heading ‘Victorian’). However, ISC works OK now with the old photos so I’m not sure what happened before. In the time between, I did updated a few things (plugins, theme, etc.) so I don’t know if it was because of any of the plugin conflicts.

    Hello @sarah9303

Thank you for your answer. Don’t fret, I got your link from the e-mail notification.

I looked at the article and studied the images in the “Victorian” section. They’re all JPEGs and, as you said, ISC works perfectly fine for them. At this point I can’t trace back what was wrong before, I’m sorry.

Still, it’s a weird hiccup, the source disappearing for one particular image. I’m very convinced that it won’t, but if this ever occurs again, I’d be happy to take another look. Just open another thread if the need arises.

    Thank you!

Sure, thanks so much for your support. If it ever happens again, I’ll try to keep some sort of screenshots or screen records for more information.

Btw, I know this sounds rather trivial but there is this small thing that bugs me when I use ISC. I usually fill out the Image Source field after I paste the Image Source Link in and the Image Source field always requires a double click. If I just click once, the cursor disappears and I won’t be able to type in the field. I know this doesn’t really affect the plugin function but having to fill out many photos’ sources, a few hundred extra clicks is rather a lot, and sometimes when I don’t notice, I just click once then type, and of course, no text shows up. Would you somehow fix this small thing so that only one click is needed to fill out the field?

    Hello @sarah9303

Thank you for your reply. Sure, anytime, I’m happy to help. Although, in effect, you did all of the problem-solving yourself ??

Concerning your afterthought—I know what you’re referring to, and I’ll make sure to pass it on to our developers. Thank you for your feedback!

    Hello @sarah9303

We have investigated the problem you described, where ISC input fields in the Media Library would become deselected when switching from a modified field. I just wanted to give you a quick update.

The problem is actually an old one and not restricted to Image Source Control. There has been a WordPress Core Trac ticket unsolved for 5 years now that describes exactly what we are witnessing.

Since we don’t expect the Core team to get to this anytime soon, we are currently investigating workarounds for our plugin. Thanks again for letting us know and helping us improve our work.

Another thing: I know I couldn’t give you any substantial help because your original problem sort of solved itself, but if you essentially liked my support I’d very much appreciate it if you could leave a short review for our plugin as a “virtual tip”.

    Thank you! Best
    Tim
