The way the slider is set up, when on larger screens the text panel actually covers the image and the images require an odd crop. If the slide is full width at 1140, let’s say, then you need an image that’s about 1140×445 (very wide, not very tall), but about a third of the width of the image is covered by the panel — but that third still needs to be good image since it’s shown when the panel isn’t covering the image.

Is there any way to use an image that’s cropped to the size that’s shown when there’s a panel (so more like 775×445) so nothing is covered up and the image is an easier dimension for finding images that work (and then that same image can be used without the panel, too)?

Hi bws-online! One option you can consider is to use images in your slider that do not have a central focal point. You can see examples on the Executive Pro theme demo site: https://demo.studiopress.com/executive/

The images there look great at full-width, but also look great at smaller screen widths when the excerpt isn’t visible.
