Image Sizing Radio Buttons Greyed out

This is driving me nuts. And NO it was not the same in 2.6

I upload 800px wide images. In 2.5 I could insert a version that would be around 600wise, and linked to the full image. Now I have… thumb, med, large and full. Large is greyed out so I can either choose 300×200 med, or full 800pc images.

C’mon, why does every new version of WP break things that worked fine before…. sigh

2.6 did not actually have a large option. What happened is that when full size was selected it would limit the width. It seems that was an annoyance for some (understandably)

In 2.7 full size has no constraints applied. This whole hassle would have been fixed if an option was simply added in the dashboard but it is an easy enough hack.

You need to edit media.php (/wp-includes/media.php)

Open it in a text editor and fine the follow code (line 65)

// $size == 'full' has no constraint
	else {
		$max_width = $width;
		$max_height = $height;
	}

Change the max to your desired max pixels. In my case I set max width and height to 600 pixels as shown below.

		$max_width = 600;
		$max_height = 600;
	}

I should mention that I’m no expert, but this did exactly what I wanted it to and I can simply use “Full Size” to insert an image yet it will max out at 600.

I am having this same problem on my blog and a freshly setup blog. The radio buttons for Thumbnail, Medium, etc are greyed out? Must of changed after the upgrade? Anyone provide a solution yet?!

Same problem here. I know I have GD enabled, because I’ve been using the Post Thumbs plugin on this server for over a year to make thumbnails. I tried using the now built-in thumbnail generation and everything is greyed except full size. I tried an exact dump of the site on localhost with WAMP and it worked fine, so it looks to me like it might be an incompatibility issue with a certain version of GD or something. I still can’t figure out for certain what it actually is though. >.>

I looked around and experimented a bit, which has brought me to the conclusion that the problem is with version 8.8 of the Podpress plugin. I made a few changes to some of the podpress files and now it works. You can download it at my blog here;

It looks as though WordPress has some issues with PHP4. Many hosts still seem to default to PHP4 (including mine), so I would recommend adding AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php to you .htaccess file.

I added that and can suddenly upload just about any image size I’d ever want to…before It’d start crashing at about 1000×1000.

tried this and I’m still stuck with greyed out radio buttons. WP do you have a fix for this?

They never installed a graphics library on the server… just added GD via Ubuntu and works fine now!

What if we have same prob but not PodPress?

mhm, it seems tome that there is another problem … i just tried to remove a podpress entry from a wordpress page. klicked on ‘remove file’ and saved the page. but the podpress-entry (including player) is till there, even if i remove the file….

Ok I had same problem with inability to resize images and use thumbnails because it was grey and after I remove podpress it was fixed! Podpress just had a new version and I will also test to see if the new podpress still has the error when utilizing images.
