Image sizes recommendation

  • Hello Astra team ??
    I have recently installed your theme and I am loving it, thank you!

    I have recently started exploring the wp-content/uploads folder and – Oh my Lord! – I have a huge number of various sizes for each picure I have uploaded. I was not aware of that until now!

    These are the currently registered Thumbnail Sizes, and I am wondering if I really need all of them? With the exclusion of the wprm images that are created by WP recipe maker for google search, I am not sure about all the other sizes.
    As a background information, the blog was migrated from blogger to WP, and I have recently swapped from the Blossom to the Astra theme, so I am not sure if some of these thumbnails are leftovers?

    I read online someone suggesting to go to setting > media and set up these values to 0 to avoid WP creating automatically the default thumbnail, medium, and large sizes, but I am not entirely convinced this is a good idea.

    I have also read that I should set these values to what I want to be my thumbnail, medium, and large sized based on the theme used, but I am not sure what values I should use.

    I am confused, and I would like to clean up my wp-content/uploads folder, and I would like to avoid creating useless images in the future.

    Could you please advice?

    The screenshot you shared, it’s no longer available.

    Well, pretty sure those various sizes of the images were used by your previous theme.

    You might want to give a try a plugin like Regenerate Thumbnails, Force Regenerate Thumbnails and/or Media Cleaner.

    Thank you for your reply. The screenshot is still available. Please try again to click on it to see all my registered thumbnail sizes ??

    I already have Regenerate thumbnails, but the number of sizes is still the same.

    Could you please let me know your thoughts on the following?

    Hi @scriccia,

    I had to use VPN to see the screenshot ??

    Please correct me if I am wrong. Plugins like the ones I mentioned, it will regenerate images with the dimensions that are used by the theme and will remove the ones that are not used. So, if you have regenerated the images, I don’t think you need to worry about it.

    As regards to the specific dimension for the image, you can refer to this doc.
