Image sizes issue

I have changed the thumbnail size on the wordpress media settings from 150×150 to 800×450 and have also added an extra image size using the simple image sizes plugin. I am editing the archive item template using Elementor.

I added the Elementor image widget and set the source to a custom image field called “hero image”. I then set the image size to custom, and set the width and height to 800×400. This only outputs the full image.

So I then added a new image size using the “Simple Image Sizes” plugin and set it to 800×450. I used this size and it outputs the full image.

So I edited the thumbnail size in the WordPress media settings to 800×400 and selected “thumbnail” as the image size for the widget. Now it’s outputting the image at a size of 150×150. I rebuilt the thumbnails and tried again. Still 150×150.

I then replaced the Elementor image widget with the GD Images widget and the custom image size is not showing in the available list and if I select thumbnail as the size it outputs at 150×150.

So custom image sizes are not working and changing the thumbnail size in WordPress is nor working either. It’s as though the thumbnail setting is hard-coded to 150×150 in GeoDirectory?
