• Hello,
    unfortunatly I don’t understand image sizes in WordPress.
    I resize my featured images before uploading them to the Media library so they have about the size of the featured image in the actual post. For this I meassured the featured image manually with a screenshot. I don’t even know if this approach makes sense. Now I am afraid to ever change the featured image size because I would have to reupload all the images.

    Now all my posts are displayed on the front page in a grid using a 3rd party Plugin and I wonder what image size is used there to display the images? I am afraid that this would load the full size image for all the thumbnails.

    Also I want to start putting images into the posts themselves and I have absolutely no idea what image size to choose, especially since it can be displayed on different screen sizes.

    Another thing I dont understand: When I zoom into my browser, the image is much much clearer than when I zoom into the same image on my PC. It gets much more pixelated on my PC, even tho it’s the original file. Why is that possible?

  • Image size settings are suppose to be set in:

    Settings => Media

    But it might also depend on the theme you use.

    Right click on the image in Google Chrome and I have found that it shows you the image size used and what it was with the theme I use. So if it is reducing them all to the same size then I would try and resize them to that size in the first place if possible.

    Some of your images in the 1st column are set at 300x150px and the 2nd column different sizes but very similar.

    Thanks for the tip with Chrome! That’s very helpful. So the thumbnails seem to be correct. So when I want to put an image into my post, it’s just a matter of how big I want to display it, right?

    I come from Android development and there image sizes and device memory are a pretty big deal, but I guess on PCs with good internet connections it doesn’t matter as much if the image is unnecessarily big?
