• I have a PNG image that is 2.09MB on disk but when I compress it with 80 rate, reSmush.it says “Reduced by 3 MB (64.57 % saved)’, when it was reduced only by 1.4MB. The resulting size is 677.12KB on disk

    That is 67.60% reduction. (2.09MB – .67712MB)/2.09MB = 0.6760 (67.60%)

The % stat is reasonably close, but the bytes stat is about 100% off in this case.

I see many PNG images that are said to be reduced by much more than the original image size.

I have been testing this more and now when I upload the same image, it says:

    Reduced by 5 MB (70.76 % saved)

Now it’s telling me it reduced a 2.08MB image by 5MB.

    Hi @macksix,

This statistic module isn’t very obvious, I admit. However, I think this is the global attachment reduction and not only the original file optimization :
    – When optimizing an attachment, it will optimize the main picture, and also various sizes/crop/styles of the same image. The stat displayed is the global reduction ??

Is that clearer to you ?

    Cheers,
    Charles
