I have just downloaded your plugin and am excited to use it.

I don’t know what settings to set for the following:

    minimum image width in pixels
    minimum image height in pixels
    maximum image width in pixels
    maximum image height in pixels

I use a lot of unsplash.com’s images, and they vary in size. Plus, I don’t know what size most people’s photos are. People will be submitting their own photos to my website. So I have no idea what to set for the pixels I have listed above.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Sharen,

It’s a great question, and really depends on the context, users, and more. So there isn’t really any one “best” set of sizes to use. To help give you an idea or starting point, I have a site that enables users to submit photos from their mobile devices. Usually the photos are fairly large because of the hi-def cameras. So I set the limits for that site as follows (all in pixel units):

    – minimum image width = 800 (because that is the max width of the page layout)
    – minimum image height = 400 (also because of design/layout goals)
    – maximum image width = 3200 (to allow for retina/HD images)
    – maximum image height = 1600 (also for retina/HD images)

I’ve found that those dimensions are sufficient for most photos/images sent from mobile like iPhone, et al. You may want to up the limits a bit depending on your needs, and also make sure that whatever sizes you allow also are allowed/supported by your server settings.

Also tip: To get a better idea, open some example photos of what you are expecting to receive in something like Photoshop or Gimp. Resize the image so that it’s @ 72dpi (screen resolution), and take a look at the width and height in pixels.

Thank you for these image sizes. Thank you for explaining your logic behind the image requirements. It makes sense. I do have questions, however.

I decided to test the plugin by submitting my own posts and images. I chose the images without looking at their sizes, which I believe most people would do. Two of them didn’t meet the 800 minimum image width and one exceeded the 3200 maximum image width. Of course, they didn’t go through. I feel that people will get frustrated and not submit posts if they cannot get images to go through at the sizes they have. So, how can I handle that problem? I doubt people will resize them to post them.

I then decided to upload a photo and got the message that I can only upload images. What if the person posting wants to upload a photo of herself? She cannot do that. Is there a way around that?

Also, some people may not want to submit images or have any images to submit. Right now, the settings require them to do so. I have post images set to “display” and images set to “auto display before post content.” Plus, I have checked “Set submitted images as featured images.” When I didn’t have “set submitted images as featured images,” the add image(s) didn’t show on the form. (I am pretty sure that is the part that makes the image choice show on the form…) So, how can I not require people
to submit an image if they don’t want to do so and have those who want to submit images, do so?

This question involves the GDPR area. The default statement is “I agree to the terms.” Do you think that people will understand that the “terms” are referring to all terms, including GDPR, with that statement? Or should I specifically state to what they agree, saying: I agree to terms of use, GDPR, privacy policy and cookie policy”?

I understand this a lot of questions. I have have struggled to find a submission manager and want this one to work for me.

    Thanks for our help.

    Glad to help:

    1) “I feel that people will get frustrated and not submit posts if they cannot get images to go through at the sizes they have. So, how can I handle that problem?”

It’s really your call, based on site strategy, goals, etc.

    2) “I then decided to upload a photo and got the message that I can only upload images. What if the person posting wants to upload a photo of herself? She cannot do that. Is there a way around that?”

Correct, the free version allows image uploads only. Pro version can upload any file type.

    3) “So, how can I not require people to submit an image if they don’t want to do so and have those who want to submit images, do so?”

You can configure the settings to not require images, then there are numerous ways to provide a fallback featured image with WordPress. The fallback is not something that is included with the plugin, but rather something that is best handled by your theme template or custom plugin.

    4) “Do you think that people will understand that the “terms” are referring to all terms, including GDPR, with that statement? Or should I specifically state to what they agree, saying: I agree to terms of use, GDPR, privacy policy and cookie policy”?”

Sorry I can’t give out advice regarding GDPR et al. My best recommendation is to consult an attorney or qualified GDPR official, etc.

    Hallo Jeff,
I’m Trying out the free version, and image upload doesn’t show up.
I can’t seem to find any help with this.
Also is there a way usesr can share links?

    Hi Natasha,

    Glad to help:

    1) “image upload doesn’t show up.”

It doesn’t show up where exactly, on the submitted post or in the Media Library?

    2) “is there a way usesr can share links?”

I’m not sure what you mean, but if you can clarify I will try to provide accurate infos asap.
