Image overlay cache

Right now many auto posts into my Facebook page are being displayed without the image (just some of them, not all). I believe that this is due to the slow response from my server. I want to suggest the addition of some kind of cache when generating the overlayed final image to avoid this, or even better, to save the featured image with the overlay applied to avoid generating it in real time when demanded. Do you think that this is possible? Can’t the overlayed image be saved when the post is saved or updated to avoid the use of your generator script?
