Image optimization? – feature request

Is there an option for using some kind of image optimization prior to uploading to S3?

Had been hoping to use an optimization filter upon media library upload, such as smush it. my users are uploading un-optimized images and it is a bloat problem.

Yahoo discontinued support for smush it, and the wpmudev smush it option uses the same/similar ajax handler as S3 and Cloudfront – which means that files are uploaded to S3 before they can be processed by smush

so… S3 and Cloudfront Pro might/should take that into account, and maybe delay uploading until triggered somehow and or integrate with optimization API’s

any other suggestions?
