I’ve just installed the wp-optimizer plugin to my dev website that uses the Elementor Pro plugin. I did speed tests on my dev site in preparation for taking the site live, but image compression kept being flagged as an issue. After some research, it seems that WPO is one of the best plugins to use for this.

    Problem:

The WPO plugin keeps returning reports that only 1 image out of the batch of existing images (eg 12 images) has been optimised.

I have only tried optimising small batches, rather than optimising all images on the site in one go.

Image quality is super important because it’s a fine art site. I need to find a balance between load speed and image definition.

Can anyone offer an insight into why the batch optimise is not working? I have around 200 images to optimise and don’t want to have to do them one by one.

    Thank you for your help.

Underneath the compressed images you should see a blue button that says “View logs” an you click this and send the log using a tool such as pastebin.com?

@vupdraft to whom should I send the log? Do you mean I should send the log to updraft via pastebin.com? I don’t know this service.

hello, i have the same problem. when i bulk select it works either on one image, or a couple, but not all.
tried resolving by disabling all plugins and taking page out of maintenance, it did still not work.
at a certain point none could be compressed.
then i compressed tru the media browser successfully. after this again, only one or a couple of images were compressed via bulk select.

the maximum amount i can compress at once is 4.

@nonhandig are you still having problems? I can’t get more than 1 image to compress. I’m using a lossless compression because I need art gallery quality images … but that shouldn’t stop the bulk compression from working. I’m new to this plugin, so not a great start.

About 5 hours ago, another user posted a similar problem with compression and webp. I think I might need to try another compression plugin as I don’t have time to wait for this to be fixed.

Yes, still max 4 images are being processed, no matter how many i select (unless less ofcourse). I also do lossless compression.

Might Smush-It be squeezing the line?

@karzad23 can you upload your log to pastebin.com and post the link here as @nonhandig has done

@nonhandig – in your log I am seeing quit a lot of this

The task with id : 1746, and type ‘smush’ seems to have been deleted from the database.

I am trying to work out why you are seeing this, did you cancel the process or do any other optimisation?

Hi @vupdraft, thanks for ur answer,
No I have not cancelled, it the progress of trying to bulk optimise, and have not used any other optimisation but yours.

    Hi,

Thank you for this. I have just reviewed a log from another user who like you has only been able to compress four images at a time.

As we use the smush server, we have very limited control over the compression service.

However, in the next update of WPO we will be launching our own compression service that will not rely on the smush servers.

    (@nonhandig)

That’s good to hear, looking forward for the update. u have an approximate ETA?

    (@nonhandig)

Bulk seems to work again, the max is 22 but for me totally acceptable

Apologies, Smush.it is a third party service so I have contacted their support. I do realise that this is an inconvenience.

The release should be in the next couple of months.
