I am replacing images with larger-sized images. The image on the front end seems to replace fine. In the editor for the page, it does not.

When I inspect the elements when visiting https://ramshacklepantry.com/make-gin-right-home/ it shows the new image and the correct width.

When I edit the same post, it seems to show that ‘Full Size’ of the image block is that of the old image, 740px. I would expect the appropriate image dimensions to show.

This seems to be a minor issue, but if I am going to do this for a bunch of images, I would like to make sure I am not causing future-me more issues.

    Hi @benmyhre,

Could you please send me a few screenshots showing what you mean? I want to be sure I understand your issue.

    Thank you,

This is what it looks like in the block editor:

    View post on imgur.com

    And on the front end

    View post on imgur.com

On the front end, it is the size I would expect. In the settings of the post and block, it looks like it recognizes ‘full size’ as the OLD full-sized image. So, I mean… it seems like the mission is accomplished, just this looks like it could cause problems for something/somewhere/somehow in the future.

    Hi there!

So, if I understood well, the image itself is the correct one and it’s correctly replaced. The only thing that’s happening is that the dimensions WordPress shows are not updated, right?

If so, that’s something Enable Media Replace is not taking care of. Our plugin only replaces the physical image files and updates the URLs on the frontend. I believe what you see in the backend is merely cosmetic and it will probably update itself if you select another option that is not “Full size” and then re-select “Full size”. ??

    I hope that helps!

That is not accurate. I tried two things:

    1. In the block editor, just select a different size and then go back to full size

    2. In the block editor, pick ‘Large’, update the post, refresh the page, change back to full size. The full size dimensions are still not accurate.

It looks to me like it pulling bad data from somewhere on the image. Likely something to do with fields that are not being replaced. Whatever that dropdown reads.

I guess I feel like if there is actual data on the media file that is factually inaccurate and an artifact of how the image once was, rather than how it is, it introduces future risk and potential problems. Messy.

It would be cool if someone took a second look at this, as I am not sure I would consider it resolved… at least in my head. I feel like there could be big issues in the future that might stem from this plugin if it doesn’t update the image data correctly.

I am hoping to use this on hundreds of images and I would hate to create real problems for future-me.

    Hi, @benmyhre,

I just tried to reproduce the issue but from my side all works well. This is what I did:

    1. I created a new post
    2. I uploaded a new image with dimensions 1920×1280
    3. I saved the post
    4. I replaced the image with one with dimensions 500×355
    5. I went to the post and I saw that nothing changed
    6. I cleared the browser’s cache and then I saw the image there and the dimensions of the block changed as well.

So I’m thinking that perhaps you simply need to clear your browser’s cache after you replace the image :).

    Best,

It definitely is not the browser cache. I logged in with FF (which I don’t use) and the same problem persists after having my computer off.

I don’t know how/where this would be problematic, but I have been poking around my db to try and figure out where these dimensions rendering on the post’s edit page are being stored.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this is tied to classic posts that have been changed to blocks. totally a guess.
