  • Why do those links on the three pictures of dogs include /wordpress in the path when none of the other links on your site do?

    What is your permalink structure?

If you notice, Firefox redirects you and strips /wordpress out of the URL.

My permalinks are set to custom: /%postname%/
I added the dog picture links from the dashboard, do you think they need editing?

Yes, I think you need to take /wordpress out of the path of those three links.

Also /%postname%/ is not a great permalink structure. WordPress will not know if it’s serving a page or a post, and if you have a page, a post, and a category that all have the same slug, they will also all have the same permalink, which will make wacky things happen.

When I remove ‘wordpress’ from the page link they still work fine but when I remove it from the img src the images vanish, do I need to move the image files?

    <a href="https://www.bullterrierstud.co.uk/jimmy"><img src="https://www.bullterrierstud.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/themes/bullie/img/jimlink.jpg" alt="jimmy" /></a>

    <a href="https://www.bullterrierstud.co.uk/junior"><img src="https://www.bullterrierstud.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/themes/bullie/img/junlink.jpg" alt="junior" /></a>

    <a href="https://www.bullterrierstud.co.uk/bobby"><img src="https://www.bullterrierstud.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/themes/bullie/img/boblink.jpg" alt="bobby" /></a>

    thanks

    The image path shows as:

    https://www.bullterrierstud.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/themes/bullie/img/jimlink.jpg

Did you originally have WordPress in a folder called /wordpress and then move it to the root folder? If so, you have to go into Settings > Miscellaneous and take /wordpress out of the image upload path. That’s what it looks like is happening to me.

    Uploading Files

Store uploads in this folder Default is wp-content/uploads
    Full URL path to files

they were both blank so I changed uploads to wp-content/uploads

    does this seem right?

Actually, since that image is in your themes/bullie folder, it was not affected by a changed image upload path, but you should check that anyway.

So, now my question is did you move WordPress to the root folder and not delete the old WordPress files from the sub-folder? There is definitely something strange going on. If WordPress is in the root and you want to take /wordpress out of the src path, then you have to make sure that the images actually exist at the new path.

And BTW it’s not a great idea to store images for your content in the theme folder. If you change themes you will still have to keep the old theme on the server or you will have to move all of the images and update all of the paths. Content images should be in wp-content/uploads.
