Image links broken after domain transfer

I see that the pictures on older posts have the URL of

//www.bizcoach101.com/wp-content/uploads/

Example:

Old not working URL: //www.bizcoach101.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/pexels-photo-51187-300×200.jpeg

Correct URL: https://bizcoachblog.bizcoach101.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/pexels-photo-51187-300×200.jpeg

Since you have already made some progress with Velvet Blue plugin you could try with it again to make a replace for:

From: www.bizcoach101.com
To: bizcoachblog.bizcoach101.com

From your page I saw that you are using Thrive Visual Editor to set up your content but I’m not sure how it is actually working so you could also try this to target the uploads as well.

From: www.bizcoach101.com/wp-content/uploads/
To: bizcoachblog.bizcoach101.com/wp-content/uploads/

If that doesn’t help since I don’t see Thrive Visual Editor as a plugin in the repository here it is probably a commercial one, if that is the case then you should try contacting them in case there is a difference of how links are handled. I’m sure they will help out as you’re their client.

Note: Always make sure to keep a backup if anything goes wrong to revert back to it.

I did the bizcoach101.com to bizcoachblog.bizcoach101.com and the message said that there were 500 images updated. But they weren’t. They are still broken.

I then went into the back end of WP and into a Post. I clicked on the featured image and it displayed the correct URL. BUT when I previewed the page and clicked on the ‘Broken’ image to Inspect Element – this is what I see.

The post I viewed was ‘Coaches – get more clients and reveal your inner winner’

Your second suggestion didn’t work – I saw an error message.

I use Thrive Architect to build my Posts and Pages on this site.

So sorry, I posted the Inspection code and it turned into that link. It has a src code which is bizcoach101.com

Well – you will see that for yourself if you right click that link yet it show the correct URL on the file.

I still see //www.bizcoach101.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Small-Steps-300x250.jpg as a source for images as well here.

Maybe there is a cache plugin or server side cache? If that’s the case then you should clear all caches for the front-end to get updated. I’m not sure how your host is set up or what other plugins you might be using to pinpoint where that might happen.

If you are sure that there isn’t any cache plugins then I’d suggest to contact Thrive as it’s a commercial plugin as far as I can tell. Since you’re their customer already I’m sure they will be happy to help you out :).

Just an extra note if you proceed on your own with any more search & replaces be aware on what you ‘search’ for for example if your links are already bizcoachblog.bizcoach101.com and you search for bizcoach101.com to replace it with bizcoachblog.bizcoach101.com again you will end up with bizcoachblog.bizcoachblog.bizcoach101.com and that will make things even harder. There are options in the plugins usually to say if it’s a strict search or not but you can’t be always 100% sure.

To avoid that use full replaces with folders as well ( like my example using /wp-content/uploads ) also .. So the plugin will have to make a match of as much as a full url basically instead of just a part of it.

Thanks so much for that information, makes sense. I hope I haven’t done any damage because I’ve added a few different searches. I think I might need to call in the cavalry. (if I only knew where they were hiding!)

Oh no we don’t want broken images of course ! There’s always a solution when we find out what is causing the issue. I’m just referring you to to Thrive instead as there’s no way to know how it works etc since it is commercial so I’m sure they will have a solution for you as they know their code and how their editor works ??

By the way one question as well ( although it should be ok since the website is already up and running ) when you transferred your WordPress you changed both WordPress URL / Site URL in the Settings -> General, and after that you should just click a save on Settings -> Permalink so all permalinks are updated to the new ones. If not you might want to check that process also, it’s a standard thing to do when changing domains since all the URLs need to be refreshed.

Sorry for not mentioning it before but my brain skipped it as it’s the normal process mainly, sometimes though it is overlooked ??

I love how you thought of those details about the settings, I didn’t actually do anything so checked those settings and I think Bluehost must have done that for me because they are correct.
