    I am new to WP.

My client wants me to put an event notice on their website. It has text and images. The images are logos that should link to sponsors’ websites. They sent me a pdf of the event notice, with links embedded.

    Normally I’d:

    • break the pdf into separate images (for each logo) and then combine them with text, and recreate the image links in the client’s webpage . . . or
    • post a teaser with a link to the pdf

How should I approach this task in WP?

    Thanks.

  • Exactly the same

I would pick the former approach and design a page based on the images and text from the PDF. For one thing, it will load faster than the PDF. For another, the look will integrate better with the overall design of their site, and users will be able to navigate to other parts of the site without having to “back out” of the PDF or switch to a different tab/window. And third, if their site is responsive, their users won’t have to zoom in to view the event details on a smaller mobile device, like a smart phone.

I wasn’t able to take a look at ccooks.org to see what the site looks like, I kept getting a 404 error.

    Thanks, both of you.

CB, yes – former approach is how I’m going to go. I tried using a couple embed-pdf plugins just to see how they worked, but they were less than elegant.

ccooks.org — they use separate email and web hosts.

Also, didn’t realize but you can edit the html of a page by turning off the visual editor. That might be helpful if I need an image map for this assignment. Maybe that’s not good practice?

    Thanks.

Yes, I never use the Visual editor, only the Text editor to work directly w/ html. That also allows you to add any CSS or javascript that’s specific to a particular page.

Yes. Seeing the html, I feel much more comfortable! Thanks.
