I have the Imaguard plugin (3.5.1) installed and activated. It seems to be working as it should (non-agressive option).

In image search, if you click on a thumbnail, a slightly fuzzy larger picture opens, then if you click on “View original image”, the picture opens within my blog.

But what I don’t understand – and not even sure if this has anything to do with the plugin – is how the “fuzzy” picture links to the blog. And the same goes for the “Visit page” link.

In nearly all cases, instead of linking to the original blog post as one expects, both links go instead to an index of uploads – for example “myblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/”.

But this doesn’t apply to every image – some link correctly to the blog post. I can’t find any reason for this discrepancy, and why some links are correct and others want to take you to the index of uploads for that month.

Any suggestions or help on rectifying this would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi scotch196!

First of all, just to explain to other readers:
In Google Image Search, Google uses a javascript to enlarge the thumbnail image they have stored on their servers. It shows that while it tries to display the larger image directly from your site. Since remote access from google as a referrer fails, the fuzzy blown-up thumbnail is never replaced by your image and thus the fuzzy image remain in the preview.

Now to the question re the link when clicking the image directly in Google Image Search: this is not handled by Imaguard. This is a link Google set themselves and it is supposed to be the page where google originally found the image. If this is not the case, please keep us updated as it would indicate google is changing their script again.

The “fuzzy” image in Google Image Search is just Google looking for the full version on your site to show to the user, realizing it is not

Thanks for the reply. Got to confess I’m very confused by what’s going on in Google image search.

As mentioned above, for some unknown reason Google is now linking to the page showing index of uploads rather than the blog post itself. This is now happening even when I disable the plugin. It doesn’t happen on a couple of other blogs, using the identical theme, where I’ve never installed Imaguard.

Also, seems my latest images are not being indexed, as mentioned by others in the support forum.

For the time being I’m going to deactivate the plugin, but I hate what Google is doing to us, so will rather keep an eye on the Support Threads and activate at a later stage once things have stabilised.
