Hello I am using the latest version of wordpress.

Everything was working fine until last night. without warning I am no longer able to upload images to any on my hosted websites. All websites use wordpress.

    I tried:

switching themes to basic twenty eleven (didn’t work)
    deactivation all plugins (didn’t work)
    re-installing wordpress (didn’t work)

I have 4 hosted websites and none of them will allow me to upload images I am getting “HTTP error” and “[image]” has failed to upload due to an error Failed to write to disk

I am not sure what is going on here. Any help is much appreciated.

  • As all the 4 sites with separate WordPress installations have the same problem, it is most likely a server-specific issue. Have you contacted your hosting provider for support with the issue?

    Thank You Krishna!

Yes I did I have been going back and forth with them for the past few days and they keep telling me that everything is fine on their end it is a wordpress issue.

I am very confused right now.

Can you link (URL) to one of your sites?

The site is password-protected. Is all the other sites too password-protected?

oh no only that one is password protected because I was testing on it..I just installed a fresh version of wordpress and a fresh theme. I also did it on this one..try it I am using the basic wordpress theme on this one and it has no plugins activated:

this one is live and has been live for 5 years without running into an issue like this:

    sociallysuperlative [dot] com

What permission have you set for the uploads folder?

I’m not sure about that. I have heard of permissions but I am not sure how to set permissions or where to set permissions. I’m sorry I am not an expert..does that have to do with my .htacess folder? where do I find that folder? Do I only have one .htaccess folder? And whet permissions should it be set on?

Sorry about all of the questions.

You need to login to your hosting account and navigate to wp-content. Then change the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

Thank you!! I see the folder in the FTP server, however I am not sure how to change permissions. I have 4 websites hosted on one hosting account so I have 4 content folders..so do I have to change permissions on all 4 one by one or can I do all at once.

And how do I go about changing those permissions? Thanks!

You need to look at the tabs/links that allows various actions at the folders that you want to change permissions.

You have to change permissions for each site individually, not all at once.

It was an issue with my hosting company. They said it was because I was accessing more than one domain name on the same browser Thank you for your help!

    You are welcome! ??
