• Hi

what I want to do is recreate the graphics gallery at my site using wordpress.

    https://lab.stargate-brats.net/graphics.php

is how it is now. I link to pages that I manually created and I use php to display the contents of a folder. I have some pages with just static 100×100 images, and other pages with thumbnails that pop up larger images, and a couple of pages allow downloads of zip files that have screen caps in them.

Im guessing I need an image gallery script or plugin, that lets me have both thumbnailed and non thumbnailed galleries.. but maybe not. Im new to wordpress, and just setting up my site in a test directory for now, so Im a bit unsure what would be the best way to do this.

do I use a gallery or a plugin? or create “pages” in wordpress (and find a plugin to allow php so I can just upload the images into a folder) and then link to the pages Ive created? make the pages manually and then somehow set the page up to use the same templates as my wordpress site?

or is there a better way?

I’d like to avoid using coppermine, 4image, gallery and anything else that is bloated as Im trying to keep my file count down, and Ive used them before and didnt really like them.

any suggestions for what I could do?

  • try Simple PHP Gallery do a google or search here. It’s not bloated. Seems you’re not sure what you want in terms of features.

yeah I use Simple PHP Gallery on another site I manage, but Im not sure about using for this. its ok for the images with thumbnails.. but it doesnt do static images does it? If I remember you have to upload a thumbnail for each image, and that means uploading the same image twice for the 100×100 images. (unless you can give the thumbnails the same name as the original. will check that)

I know what I want feature wise, for my site… Im just not sure how to go about doing it in a way that makes it easy for me to update.

All I really want is to be able to have both the thumbnailed and non thumbnailed images. I want it to be easy to add 8-10 new images at once, and to create a new category if I need to. Thats about it. any thing else like comments and stats etc are a bonus.

I asked on the Simple PHP Gallery forum, and you need thumbnails with that one, and I dont need them. I dont see the point in having them for 100×100 icons. So.. yeah. any other ideas anyone?
