Image gallery linked from thumbnail

I am working on a project and hit a small issue. Is there a way to show one thumbnail, and when clicked it opens (via lightbox), and have the option to navigate to the next image within the gallery? Most galleries I’ve seen have all the thumbnails on the page, and not just one that allows to open and scroll through.
