Image Galleries not visible with 3.5 "Add Media" feature

right. you see what i’m saying though, moving forward. in the current version to re-arrange some images, as you pointed out, you have to go to Insert Media. but that’s not what you’re doing, you’re not inserting, you’re editing. there should be an option that says “Edit Gallery” or in this case, and to your points, “Edit Attached Images.” there is such an option, but you can’t see it unless you insert a gallery with a shortcode.

I think I’m suffering from the wording issue too. I use to use the old gallery functionality associate a group of images, either recently uploaded or existing in the media gallery, with a post. Then in the template use them. I have been using the file galley plugin to order them. I’d hoped that the new Media functionality might have worked similarly.

lukehm: You don’t have to “associate” images with a post anymore to put them together into a gallery. Just go to the new media screen, select the create gallery option, check whatever images you like, whether they be fresh uploads or old images or even images in other galleries, order them, change their info, then insert the gallery shortcode right into the post.

Attached images no longer form the backbone of the gallery system. Any arbitrary set of chosen images can be a gallery.

The reorder thing with the new gallery does not work. Screwing up functionality this this simple is incredible. Come on guys!

just out of interest guys, whilst on the ssubject of images and the media inserts etc. have you totally removed the ‘search media’ function from the media bank?

so now if I want to put in an image I uploaded three years ago I have to manually go through three years of images to try and discover the pictire I want??

how does that make it easier or better?

excuse me if I am missing something, or missing a button or search bar but I see none of the simple functionality that was installed in the previous version? If anything 3.5 is far more fiddly and cluttered

If the images are not linked to the post you wanna insert the photo gallery, they won’t appear on the page.

The make them appear you have to link those images to the article – they will appear right away. Happen to me as well.

It’s kind of stupid the way the new gallery in 3.5 works but I rather have this built-in functionality in WP than hunting again and again for photo galleries plugins.

GmP Jamie: The search box is on the right hand side of the screen when you are looking at the Media Library view.

Vic: I don’t understand what your post is referring to here. Galleries don’t have to have images linked to the post.

dear all i m also using 3.5 that was automatically upgraded, now i m also in trouble and confused. actually my 3 websites based on image gallery posts, and now i m unable to post any gallery in any other new post.

kindly guide me how to post, actually i did know what is “shortcode” which u all talking about. or simply kindly tell me how to downgrade version in very simple way as i m not much faimilier with coding and programming etc.

pls help me. i m so tensed.

Here’s the solution:

If you need to use gallery for a plugin or theme, (eg. WooSlider in adapt) IT WILL NOT WORK in 3.5 gallery unless you upload the images from your computer or a URL while you’re on that specific post.

In other words, if you have images in your media library and add them to a gallery, they wont attach to the post (or associated//whatever), and you’ll be scratching your head for an hour like I was.

So:

1. Create a gallery
2. Upload photos from your computer, etc.
3. Delete the shortcode
4. And walah!

I’m also having problems with galleries on my theme since automatic upgrade to 3.5.

I upload images to posts and pages, usually one image not linked to a file so it appears on the page full size and then also in the page i upload a gallery of thumbnails that are viewable with lightbox plugins. Currently i am using WP-prettyphoto and all the images previously uploaded appear as normal on my site but when uploading a new gallery i cannot get the lightbox plugin to work. I am also having issues with WordPress 3.5 and attaching images to pages and posts.

When i try to attach an image to the page or post through the ‘Add Media’ button the image does not show in my gallery on the front end.

It seemed though that when i am in the Media Library if i click the drop down menu and select ‘Uploaded to this page’ and then i move one of the images to second position and then put it back. From then on when i upload an image to be attached it then shows in the gallery.

I am not sure why this works. It seems to be something to do with the image not being assigned a menu order number unless i move one of the image’s positions.
