Image From Media Library

  • This seems so simple but I can’t find an answer.

    As an administrator editing a record I want to be able to add an image from my WordPress media library. The image upload field only gives the option to upload an image rather than select an existing image from the media library.

    Also, ideally, I would like to make the image clickable so that it links to another page on my site but I can live without that if it’s not possible.

    Can you help?

    There is no built-in way to provide the user with the ability to select an item from the media library.

    Depending on what you’re trying to do, it is possible to use the “media embed” type field to display an image, given its absolute path (which you can get from the media library item page). If you don’t need the user to select the image, this might work for you.

    As to making it clickable, the plugin isn’t set up to provide a link such as you ask about.

    Hi, thanks for the quick response.

    It seems an odd omission that as an administrator I can’t select an image from the media library as that is a fairly standard feature throughout WordPress. I tried using the media embed field which worked but but I couldn’t find a way to resize the image.

    But I’ll figure something out. Thanks again for your help.

    Resizing the image is usually accomplished with some CSS. Also, being a media library image, you can select an image at a different size or crop, but it’s not easy to find the filename for those images.

    This feature has been in the queue for a long time, but it’s way more complicated that it might appear, and few users have asked for it. I’ve worked on it, but I haven’t come up with a good way to implement it yet.

    Thanks for the additional information. The plugin is great and works well for me so I don’t mind finding a workaround for this minor issue.
