    Hello,
When I rotate images in WordPress via “Edit Image”, WordPress automatically appends “_rotated” and a long number such as “_rotated-e1678954006984” to the image name.
Does WordPress itself or a plugin and how can I turn it off?

    Thanks and all the best
    John

Unfortunately, there is no built-in option in WordPress to turn off the automatic appending of “_rotated” and a long number when rotating images via the “Edit Image” feature, as it is the default behavior of WordPress. This behavior is hard-coded into WordPress core and cannot be disabled via the settings.

However, there are a handful of alternatives for this problem:

Rename the image file manually: You can also manually rename it after it has been rotated. Navigate to the Media Library, find the image you want to rename, and click the “Edit” button. Then, change the file name in the “File Name” field to remove the “_rotated” and long number suffixes.

Use a plugin: You can use a plugin like Rename Media Files to rename the images after they have been rotated. This plugin allows you to customize the file name format and remove the “_rotated” and long number suffixes.

Use an external image editor: prefer to avoid WordPress’s built-in image editor altogether and use an external image editor.

This way, you can control the file names and avoid the “_rotated” suffix.
