Image captions not showing when editing

A problem has developed on both of my sites. Although image captions are showing on posts when published, they are not showing up on the page when I edit the post. This means that I can no longer add hyperlinks to captions.
The problem arose a couple of weeks ago, possibly connected with a theme update. I am on Elementor/Astra.
Any ideas?
