Image buffer to start load outside of viewport

Hi, love the plugin and its simplicity. I use pretty large images on my site and would like to trigger image load to a few hundred pixels before the image enters the viewport.
I know just enough JS to hurt myself but can read it well enough to get an idea of what each function is doing.
Is there an easy way to trigger an image load to, say, 300px before it hits the viewport? This would help my user experience quite a bit, as some have complained the site feels slow because images take a second or so to load after they hit the viewport.
