When I add an image to my media library on my WordPress site, I get a “server can’t handle the image” message and no completion screen, but when I go to the media library page, the image is uploaded.

    Hi stonewjl,

This is a WordPress message saying that the server is busy or there aren’t enough resources. It’s possible that the message is kicked off at the same time that the image actually processes, which may be what happened in your instance. Generally this is a good indicator, though, that you are uploading images that are too large (or that your server is seriously underpowered).

    Thanks for your reply.

Perhaps, my explanation was not clear enough. My current problem is as follows:

When publishing a post, I enter the content, click the Add Media button, select and add a locally available image, but the completion screen does not appear, and the message “The server can’t handle the image…” is displayed and the post publishing cannot be completed. The same thing happens when I upload the image repeatedly.
I have no choice but to save the post as a draft by pressing the Draft button, and when I go to the media library, the image is already uploaded. I then copied the image’s URL and went to edit the draft post and inserted the image URL to complete publishing the post.
This issue happened after a recent update to several plugins including the EWWW plugin. Prior to that, uploading images worked fine. Is there any way to resolve this issue?

I tested out your process a few different ways and I couldn’t get it to happen. Again, the error message is a WordPress message so my guess is it’s related to timing out. I would suggest checking with your webhost to see if they can see anything in the error logs. I think I would also recommend trying to uninstall and reinstall the plugin and see if that affects anything.

Thanks. I will try what you suggested.

I haven’t heard anything else so I’m hoping things are working! I’m going to resolve this but feel free to open a new thread if you still have questions.
