    Hello,

I maintain about 10 WordPress sites and have been using Shield Security for a while–excellent program! After a recent update, none of the sites are displaying the “I’m a human” checkbox on the login screen, even though login protection is enabled and Bot Protection is switched on.

Hosting is on Siteground with SG Optimizer plugin installed; this has not changed for several years. Could this be an issue with changed code in Shield or perhaps an issue with the SG Optimizer plugin?

    Thank you!

I just loaded the page you referred to and it’s working for us. Have you changed anything?

There are certain SG optimizer plugins that can cause serious issues and Shield will try to identify those and warn you. If Shield isn’t warning you, you should be fine.

If you’re using a page caching plugin, please ensure it’s not caching the login page…

    Hi Paul,

I am seeing the “I’m a human” checkbox on my mobile phone but I still cannot see it on any desktop browser. I have cleared both browser cache and website cache and also tried on two different desktop computers (Macs). I also cannot see the checkbox on 9 other sites that I maintain. Most are on Siteground but one is on WPEngine which definitely does not use SG Optimizer. What might be going on? This just happened in the last week or two. Is my IP somehow getting logged somewhere? Did you check on desktop too?

    Thank you!

This sounds like a caching problem or you’ve whitelisted your IP address.

Can you login on the pages/sites where the checkbox doesn’t appear?

Yes I can login to all of them. The only thing missing is the I’m a human words and check box.

I have cleared all caches, both website and browser, and tried on different computers and browsers. I have not done any whitelisting of my IP address. I have changed no Shield settings on most of the 10 sites. Suddenly the login screen stopped showing the I’m a human section.

Can you check your ip whitelist?

Is that the same as being on the IP Bypass List? If so, then yes, my IP is on that list. How does it get on there? I never added it.

I notice that the label for that IP on the Bypass List is “MainWP Server (automatically added)”. Does Shield have a server where admin logins are stored automatically and added to a Bypass list? Does Shield track my logins then?

I’m not sure I understand all your questions there, but I’ll explain.

Shield does “track” all your logins/sessions. “We” don’t, and we don’t have a “server” that stores logins – the Shield plugin itself tracks logins to your site and monitors them so that it can then apply any user/sessions restrictions. You can see all current user sessions in the User Sessions table.

None of this user sessions information is ever sent offsite, to us, or to anyone else.

As to MainWP, this is new in the latest release:
    https://onedollarplugin.com/blog/new-shield-security-extension-mainwp/

Shield now interfaces with MainWP so that it can capture logins from your MainWP server. I would assume that you wouldn’t want Shield interfering with your MainWP communications – in order to prevent Shield blocking your MainWP, or enforcing 2FA login protection when your MainWP server logs into your site, Shield will automatically detect a MainWP server connection and whitelist the IP address.

In your case, you appear to be hosting your MainWP server “at home” i.e. from where you’re browsing to your site. That’s why your IP address has now been whitelisted.

I hope all that makes sense, but let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you, Paul, for explaining all this! It does make sense, and explains why my IP was whitelisted even though I took no action to do that. And it reinforces the excellence of the Shield plugin!

No problem at all! May I ask, if you’re liking Shield, would you be open to leaving us a nice review? ?? These really help us…

    Cheers!
