I had a reply back on an install problem and if using xampplite and having windows xp pro thatI needed to take out IIS. Could someone clarify this for me and what I should do. I am a nubie and figured I could install wordpress like I did when I was learning for Joomla. Guess I got fooled.
    Thanx a million in advance

IIS is Microsoft’s web server (Internet Information Server). It may or may not be running on your PC.

If you are having problems with xampplite, it may be because IIS and xampplite are both fighting for port 80 on your computer. Port 80 is the typical port used by web servers.

    It’s easy to troubleshoot this:

    1) Goto Start, Run, and type in “services.msc” and hit enter.
    2) The services manager will appear.
    3) Locate “IIS Admin”, right-click on it, and click “Stop”.
    4) Restart xampplite

If xampplite works, then make sure you go back to service manager and disable IIS (unless you need it for some other application). Otherwise IIS will start the next time you reboot your machine and you’ll have the same problem again.

Hello. I am still having problems with my xampp installation. I wanted to try the method above but I don’t see IIS Admin in the services manager. When I start xampp it shows that mysql is running but not the apache. When I click apache start on the control panel it starts to run for a few seconds then stops- I also see the message

    busy…
    apache has started [port 80]

Does anyone have a clue?! please help.
