• Hello all,

I was wondering if someone could advise why my installation of WP 2.1 randomly through the day uses 100% cpu (or high amounts anyway).

I can easily recreate the problem; if i browse to my site and then hit refresh about 10times, the server goes very loud and the cpu usage goes up to 80% or more.

Previously it was the php.exe process that would go wild if I did lots of refreshes. So i updated my installation to ues the ISAPI dll. That cured the problem with high usage of php.exe but it appears the problem has now moved to w3wp.exe.

If anyone could shed any light, it would be most appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

That’s pretty normal. IIS is a bit of a resource hog. Also, when you get lots of requests to the site, the load is going to increase as it processes them. Get a faster and bigger server to be able to handle more requests.

Using 100% CPU is normal when you’re actually doing things.

Sorry for the delay in reply… i forgot how active the forum was ??

Ok well the server (my other desktop!) is a Pentium D 2.8Ghz with 2GB ram. On a slower machine with the old WP 1.5.2 i never experienced this high cpu usage, althogh i think i was using php 4 :/

Anything else I can check to make sure I am not missing anything obvious?

    Cheers
