star-brite Template Ignores Text Formatting

How come this theme ignores formatting? When I created new posts with bold, italics or blockquoting, the theme completely ignores them. The text shows up on the site in regular, plain text.
Why would anyone design a theme that ignores basic text formatting commands?? If you don’t want formatting, just don’t put any in the post. I want to be able to make things appear in bold, italics or in colors.
