    Hello,

I’ve put the website through GTMetrix and it’s bringing back “Avoid an excessive DOM size” and it’s the Instagram feed on the site it is highlighting.

Is there anything we can do to improve this as this will improve the overall grade the site will be given?

    Thanks,
    Javed

    Hi @digitljaved,

Thank you for contacting us! When I check https://allaboutweddings.co.uk/, it appears that the Instagram plugin is no longer active, but I’m still seeing a similar GTMetrix score with “Avoid an excessive DOM size”. https://a.supportally.com/i/ELPzeU

We have not received other reports of this issue, and since it still appears to be occurring without the feed on the page, you may want to test switching to a different theme or using a different page builder or editor to try to find what is adding an unnecessary amount of elements to the DOM.

If we can help with any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

    Thanks!

    Hi Louis,

One of the highlighted problems was with the Instagram feed, removing that from the homepage bumps the score to a high C (72%)

The other elements it’s referring to are the slick sliders on the homepage and we’ll take a look at those.

Is there absoutely nothing that can be done about the avoid excessive DOM size for the IG feed?

    Thanks,
    Javed

    Hi Javed,

One thing you could try would be to go WordPress Dashboard > Instagram Feed > All Feeds, click the feed’s name or pencil icon to edit it, go to Feed Layout, and lower the Number of Posts.

On the more advanced end, you can use Custom Templates to change the HTML output of the feed: https://smashballoon.com/doc/guide-to-creating-custom-templates. This requires some custom development, but gives you much more control of the DOM elements added to the page by the feed.

    I hope this helps!

    Best regards,
    Louis

    Hi Louis,

That’s great, I will take a look at those options.

Nothing further to add from me.

    Thanks,
    Javed
