Why I chose to use Bulletproof Security Pro? Well… for starters, the affordable price, unlimited multi-site use, and 5 star support I received.
But most important, it’s a true security plugin from my perspective. Bulletproof is not one of those security plugin that you install and pray it’s working. Bulletproof is a security plugin that protects your site and puts you at the command station. And that command station is advance.
Those that gave bulletproof low star review, either expected a one-click do it all for me, or got overwhelm by the backend setup. I’ll admit, I was a bit overwhelm, but as I start to learn how Bulletproof works, I ended up buying the PRO version.
There is a learning curb to understand how Bulletproof Security Pro interface/backend works. I believe that learning curve is very important, because that learning curve will help you understand how your website functions and how it is truly being protected. I’ve installed those other protection plugins such as Wordfence. I found it bogged down my site and did very little to help me understand how it is protecting my site.
How Bulletproof works? I’ll try to explain the best I can from my user experience.
Nothing gets by without your permission:
You’re in control and nothing gets by without your permission. How? It hardens up your backend files and polices each file. If there is an unknown change without your permission, it will police that file, lock it up, and throw it in jail. Jail, as in quarantine for viewing. Once in quarantine, you can determine if you want to restore it or delete it. By having this feature, it allows you to see and control what is happening to your site.
As that is happening, Bulletproof auto-restore kicks in, putting back your original file back as if nothing ever happened, which means your site continues to run without hiccups, leaving you to decide the fate of the quarantined file.
For example: I tested this feature by adding a few text in a txt file, I saved it. Within seconds, that text file I edited is sitting in quarantine waiting for me to decide its fate. At the same time, Auto-restore kicks in, and puts back my unedited/original txt file.
Like a good bookkeeper, it logs everything.
The logs I’ve gotten to understand so far: Security log, PHP error log, and Quarantine log. There are more, but those three are the ones I understand the most. Do note, these logs are very detail; it helps by pointing me in the right direction of approach.
My log experience:
1. If someone or bot is attempting to hack your site; it blocks it, and logs it.
2. If you install a plugin, it logs that.
3. (My favorite feature) The PHP error log, if a plugin is has improper php coding. It logs that, and lets you know which php function has a potential error. From here, you can report it to the developer or bulletproof support for further investigation. I usually deactivate the plugin and find one with no errors.Improve performance and protection with special codes.
1. Brute Force login protection code.
2. Speed Boost cache code.
3. XML-RPC DDos Protection code.
4. POST Request Attack Protection code.
5. There’s more, etc, etc, you get the idea. Those codes eliminates the need to install separate plugins that do the same job. On that note, if you have a maintenance plugin. Well… Bulletproof has one that protects the front and backend. And allows you to control who gets access by whitelisting their IP.
5 Star Support
Support is very important to me. I find their forum answers most of my problems I’ve encountered. Such as adding custom codes for WooCommerce, payment gateways, etc, etc.
And if you can’t find answers there, email them, they will answer asap and help you out. Bulletproof has a lot of features not mention in my review, so it’s up to you to explore it.Overall, Try the free version, understand it, and decide.
Anyone that says this plugin doesn’t work, I say, “Good luck figuring out what happen to your site when you get hacked.”
