I noticed that many plugins do not actually delete the original files in the WordPress directory (of the target site). That means, if you migrate from A to B and you there was already a WordPress install on B, all the files & folders from the previous install stay. It’s only merging those new files with the old files and overwriting them.

Duplicator Pro for instance allows to actually overwrite the entire WordPress core, all folders and files, etc.

How will this work with WPvivid?

If you just overwrite (merge) the files/folders, please let me know why you would not allow a “clean” migration?

If I migrate from A to B, I expect to find the exact same file/folder/DB structure on B after the migration finished

    Thanks in advance

    Markus

    Hello @markussss

By default, WPvivid does not delete files in a migration. In most cases, the target site for a migration is a fresh WordPress install, which is also recommended and assumed.

In WPvivid Backup Pro, you have the options to clean up old files and empty the database before restoring.

    Thanks @tonyrobins,

I am ready to buy Pro LTD but wanted to understand exactly how that last part works.

The thing is that I don’t think that it’s mostly a fresh WordPress install. There are many cases where we would do a relaunch. So the site exists already on the hosting of the client. No need to mess around with access to their hosting and domain as long as I have FTP access.

Another situation could be when you want to migrate between dev and staging.
    Dev is for the development.
Staging is to show the client the status.

I would migrate the site every 2 weeks from Dev to Staging, fully overwriting Staging (not merging).

Therefore, I think there are valid use cases.

When I do a “normal” migration with Updraft Pro, WPvivid, Migration Guru.. it seems you all merge the content.

And that is the part I cannot fully understand.

If I want to migrate A to B. I want that B looks exactly like A. I don’t want to get an A-B-mix.

Thanks for reading that far … I hope that helps to better understand my perspective and use cases.

I’ll see if I find that part about “clean up old files” in the documentation, to see if this works for my use case. Maybe that is exactly what I would require.

I also think that many others would need this as well, but perhaps just don’t know about it, as merging works most of the time (it’s just not a clean way of doing it).
