I am at a loss. I have completely deleted and recreated my database, reinstalled WordPress, and copied nothing over from the old installation. Still, this problem persists. If I write a post up to a certain word length, every element of my front page shifts to the left by 8 pixels. It can be seen here:

You can compare it to the “About” page listed at the top. The last instance of the word “testing” is the one that throws it out of whack. It happens no matter what theme I am using, including the default one. In other words, it happens with a completely fresh installation of WordPress before I do anything to it.

If anyone has any ideas, I’m willing to try anything at this point. Thanks!

  • What os and browser are you using? And what is you desktop resolution?

I don’t see any shift on my end where both pages have the same left edge. I’m running xp with ie8.

Windows 7 with Firefox 3.6.3 and Internet Explorer 8, but wow you just made me check my girlfriend’s computer, and it’s not happening on hers. I even increased the word count.

So if you open the “About” page in a new tab and switch back and forth, you don’t see a difference in alignment? Well damn, now this is going to be harder to isolate. I assume it’s a resolution issue now though. Thank you!

Okay, so it doesn’t happen on my computer when I drop my resolution down to 1360. Are there known issues in WordPress for resolutions of 1920 width?

happens in google chrome too – if there’s enough resolution for it to shift off…

I don’t see it as a major issue at all – certainly not worth wasting time on…

    1) you will certainly change themes eventually
    2) the width of the content never changes
    3) if you put anything worthwhile on any page, it will always scroll off the edge anyway… and it’s not just one monster of a post, numerous posts on the the front page will do the same job.

I say get on with the content – you can solve this problem later or never.

Thanks! I’m just curious why this happens on a completely clean installation of WordPress (or if I’m a unique case). I will do some more independent testing then get on with my content ?? I appreciate the help and support.

    ummm… you know what it is… heh…

it jumps by exactly the width of the scroll bar… exactly the behaviour you would expect.

lol wow, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. I spent way too much time trying to figure out something so obvious.

Thanks again for the help and the closure. I’ll focus on content for real now.

I read your posts and we suffer from a similar … speedhump approach to life… all I can say is I’m sorry it sucks to be us.

I talk a good game but I would have spent days on nothing myself, so I understand… good luck ??
