IE compatibility, other minor issues

I just discovered that my website looks horrible in Internet Explorer. The columns don’t line up with the backgrounds, or each other. Can someone please help me?

Also, it seems that at some point while I was tweaking, I lost the Page-child thing. In my sidebar, under Pages, the “Curriculum Vitae” used to have an indented ” >>” to indicate it as a sub-child of “About Me.” The entire site is a modified version of the Jakarta theme, if that helps.

In general, I’m getting very stressed out by these final touches, and would very much appreciate any help or suggestions.
