IE 6: my blog appears way down below the sidebar

Thanks for replying to my question. I’m afraid though you have instantly made me realise that I am out of my depth as I know nothing about fixing any of those 161 errors on my website!

Am I being overly hopeful in thinking that there is just one of those that I need to fix to solve this particular problem (and that I can maybe ignore the rest of them)…?!

Or should I use something like this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/tidy Or am I just heading towards destroying everything if I start paddling out of my depth?!

The good new is, is that as soon as you fix one of the things, you’re often down with 10 or more errors of the validator. This validator is handy for locating errors (it uses the source of your website, you have to look there to find the matching css or php file). Your problem is often caused by an unclosed </div> in the header. Other then that I can only say that I have struggled with validating too. It is supposedly easy when you know what you’re doing, but when this is all new…. Anyway, plenty of people who can help on this forum, so when you have problems with finding the cause of an error, you can try to specify on the forum and somebody will hopefully tell you what’s what.

I am not a word press expert, but I have similar problems with IE6. Its not just wordpress, but also many CMS that are now in commone use eg the Amnesty UK web site displays fine in Firefox but in IE6 the content drops down and out of sight.

I maintain 3 wordpress blogs and know from the stats that many users are still using IE6 so have got round this by choosing themes that are compatible with IE6, not one written for later versions of browsers.

I cant give you the explanation for this though I am sure you could google it.

So unless you are determined to keep the theme you currently have, I would work you way through those on offer that come close to what you want – although last time I looked the themes directory had done away with the very simple seach function, eg white, 3 column, right hand and its a right pain to do this.

In the end this is what I did although there can still be problems. For instance on this blog https://womensphere.wordpress.com if for instance I put in a very long url it will wrap within the content section and not push them down below the right hand menus. However on this blog https://womensgrid.freecharity.org.uk if I put in a long url it does push the content section down.

I apreciate this isn’t a very techie solution, but is a way of dealing with the problem.
