iDevaffiliate tracking. Coupon code vs affiliate link, who wins?

    Hi there,

    I am using iDevaffiliate on my wordpress site (onlinebettingschool.com) with S2 member.

    I have a question about affiliate tracking that I hope you can answer.

    I have my affiliate tracking with iDevaffiliate set to “First to send visitor gets credit.”, because I was told to, as I am using recurring billing as it’s a monthly membership program.

    So if Affiliate1 sends a visitor via their affiliate link and the visitor signs up as a free member.

    Then the member upgrades after say 1 week. But uses Affiliate2’s coupon code.

    Which affiliate get’s credited with the sale?

  • That’s a good question, I’ve never tested this. You could do a test and see which aff gets credited in that scenario.

    I’ll ask Jason about it as well.

    Here’s what Jason said:

    The original affiliate is credited in that case. The coupon code will be applied, but the affiliate associated with that coupon code (if it is different from the original referring affiliate), will not be credited, because the customer was already associated with the first affiliate that referred them.

    The original (initial) association between customer and affiliate occurs whenever a potential customer clicks a link or enters a coupon code that is associated with an affiliate. So even if that customer doesn’t actually make a purchase initially, that association is still there behind-the-scenes. When the customer does finally make a purchase, the ?*first to send visitor*? gets credit, even if a coupon code is entered during checkout with another affiliate’s ID in it.
