identifying and deleting unused graphics from site

    I’m trying to clear out and slim down unused code and graphics on my under construction site https://www.gracechurchhouston.com.
    How would i identify whether the graphics in the media library are being used on the site? I’m sure there are images there that i’ve changed, added updated ones but haven’t deleted but wouldn’t want to delete unless i was sure they are not being used on the site.
    Is there an easy way to ID the images to see if they’re in current use – either in WP or by ‘inspect element’ on the site itself?

  • Hi Ann!

    You can see if your images are attached to any pages or posts by going to your media library page in the wordpress dashboard and checking out the “Uploaded To” column.

    However, be careful, as this will indicate only the images that are attachments in pages or posts. Any images that are being used from your media library that are not attached to pages or posts will not be indicated as attached.

    Images that are not typically image attachments:

    • background images
    • images placed into widgets via an <a> tag
    • any other place media files have been grabbed directly by an <a> tag

    However, checking out the “Uploaded To” column should help you narrow it down.

    I appreciate your reply. I just looked at the “Uploaded To” column and all the images show to be “Unattached” (with link of “Attach” below it)… even though all images are showing on all the pages, ie logo, nav slice, header, etc. I guess I’m not sure of the purpose to “Attach” each image to all pages if they’re already showing on them. Maybe you could clarify?
