    Hey folks,

    Cool plugin . . .

I think there is a bug/issue though with it (fairly significant to where it causes sites not to be administered unless deactivating the plugin too I think . . . see below).

One of the sample sites: https://bit.ly/2oe1eZd (I have re enabled the plugin FYI too after creating the below video explanation)

After WP 4.7.5 I began getting customer complaints on various WP dashboard areas at random and when trying to save settings at times too. When we disable the Really Simple SSL plugin all issues go away.

Here is a brief custom video showing you exactly what is going on as a example (but it is not the only example as it happens in multiple areas of the WP dashboard):

Let me know what you find out . . . smile.

    Sincerely,

    Hi @birdog123,
Thanks for the detailed report. I have just tried this on a testsite, and can’t reproduce it, so it’s possibly a conflict with another plugin, or a specific setting. So I’ll need some more info to be able to reproduce it.

You’re the first to report on this, so I don’t think this is a very common issue, otherwise I think there would have been more people with this issue.

What settings do you use in Really Simple SSL?
Does this also happen when you deactivate the wp redirect and/or .htaccess redirect (settings/ssl)?

Is it possible there’s another redirect from for example a language plugin at work here? As the error message you get is the “too many redirects error”, it looks like something else is also redirecting. If this redirect is working against Really Simple SSL, this might cause a loop. But it’s strange this only happens on some pages.

    I got it now . . . lol.

Well, doing update and reactivating the plugin we clicked the Activate SSL on the top notice but did not even thing about going to settings cause we activated it from the top SSL Activate notice that typically shows upon plugin activation. Well…would you know…

    LOL

    After https://www.screencast.com/t/VAIGSQnoJeBa

Sometimes it is the simplest stuff I tell ya . . .

Thanks for reminding me (looking at all the little details vs. the obvious because I assumed it was on by clicking Enable SSl on plugin activation FYI).

So you clicked “activate SSL”, but it still showed the “not enabled” message?

The expected behaviour is that when you click “activate SSL”, it is activated, not that you should click it again on the settings page. Is it possible it was deactivated again later?

Possibly the “activate SSL” notice at the top was hidden by an admin notice cleanup tool, or by another plugin?

    Anyway, glad it’s resolved!

    Hey,

Yes on this “So you clicked “activate SSL”, but it still showed the “not enabled” message?”

I did deactivate and reactivate (and do sometimes when plugin troubleshooting too) but the top notice to activate always appears and I always “had” assumed all settings were active too. Now, I will double check setting all the time since it seems to not really activate with the notice button to activate upon reactivating at times.

No, the top notice always shows and I click to enable all the time…never looked in the settings though.

Let me know if that helps?

Maybe after one clicks the top notice, add a redirect to the plugins SETTING page perhaps to have them triple check all is as expected? That would be perfect.

    Thoughts?

Well, the top notice and the activate button on the settings page are both triggered by the same “ssl_activated” setting, so if it is false, both should appear. The only reason this same button is there on the settings page, is that in some configurations, the top notice gets hidden by malformed html of another top notice, or by admin notice removal tools.

My first guess would be that this has been the case here, but I will run some additional tests to doublecheck this, thanks for the feedback!
