After an idea is submitted, I get the following message:
“Idea submitted successfully, now showing your ideas”.

It’s a good message, because it explains what I’m about to see, or not see, and why some posts are missing. BUT… finding the way back to the main list is confusing. There are so many options to choose from in the gray drop downs. I don’t know immediately, or intuitively what the best view that shows ALL is.
A better way of phrasing this is: “How do I get back to the ‘Main page’?”

It’s a similar problem when clicking into a post.
It took me a few solid minutes until I noticed the breadcrumb link that goes back to the ‘default’ view.

It all feels incoherent and confusing, partly because of the different ways to go ‘back’, partly because of the default font and caption sizes, and partly because of the order of the elements.

I know that all this looks that way it looks because it’s based on the WordPress posts system, but I think there are easy ways to fix this.

    A few suggestions:
    1. You could rename the breadcrumb origin to ‘Home’ instead of the name of the ideapush page. Instead of showing the full name of the suggestion as the current breadcrumb link, rename it to ‘Idea’ or to ‘Suggestion’.
The breadcrumb sole purpose would than be to ‘Go back to main’. Under all this you could present the name of the idea.

    2. The view is kinda cluttered by default. Too much information. I’ll probably try to hide most of the stuff with CSS (if I can), or move it around (I can’t :)). Maybe a better visual hierarchy is necessary and better placement.
What if the date, user name, user icon, status, number of comments were all smaller and placed below the Idea caption and contents? Are they so important to be way on top of each post?

    3. The previous and next post navigation links I believe are not necessary to show ever. That might be just me. It’s more natural for me to go ‘Back’ and then to go to the next idea.

    4. If you were to have a ‘Main Page’. What would it be? Now the main page is the default filters which are:
‘Showing Popular’ and ‘Ideas that are Open’. I happened to rename open to Idea. So now it shows ‘Ideas that are Idea’… hmmmm :).

It feels to me that the filters are too confusing at first. Too much to choose from, and once a user changes the filter, it’s not clear what the default ‘Main’ is. Maybe the clear back button (name of the project or Main) will already make things clearer.

Sorry this is so long. I really like this, and want to get it to work nicely and clearly for my customers. I’ll gladly pay for it once I figure it all out.
I’ll try to do my own CSS tweaks for now, but I think the order of elements is most important (and it’s something I cannot change myself without hacking your plugin).

    Great work so far!!!

Even better, for the ‘Back’ button. It could be a chosen ‘name of the company’ (for example), all the way on the top of every page, no matter if you’re in the main posts list view or in a single post view. Like the basic navigation in most websites today, where you click on the logo on top left/right, and you’re back in the home page.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Point 1 – Renaming the breadcrumb to home could suggest it’s going back to the websites home page and this may cause more confusion

Point 2 – Just hide it or change things with CSS, there’s also board settings which hide certain things. Your clutter is what someone else really likes about IdeaPush. It can’t be all things to all people.

Point 3 – I am not sure what this is about.

Point 4 – Just don’t rename open to idea. Just keep it on the default or call it a name that suggests it’s outstanding.

Thank you for the quick reply.
I understand your considerations for having Ideapush to work for multiple use case scenarios. There’s no silver bullet that solves everything… But I’ll keep suggesting :).

In point 3, when you go into a post, the navigation to the next or previous posts appears. (.fl-post-nav-prev …) I’ll hide those with CSS.

One important question if you could help with. How can I change the position of the date, user name, user icon, status, number of comments to be below the Idea caption and contents?

I think on your point 3, this is actually created by your theme and not the plugin. We don’t have any post navigation code in the plugin except on the main board page.

You can’t move those things unless you modify the code or do so with javascript. If you upgrade to pro I can provide this javascript code snippet for you.

    Purchased! ??

Looking forward to the javascript code.
It may also be good to move the Admin functions in the post view. Either below the message, or completely above everything. It’s kind of in the middle of things right now, and it makes it hard to read.

Looking forward to play around more with this.
    Thank You Martin

    Thank you so much!
Snippets arrived and I got it working. Sent you a reply.

Yes, your email arrived in the junk. I’ve had that happen to me quite a bit with my flextools domain emails until I ‘broke’ and reluctantly moved to g suite.
