Hi, we have some customers using IDEAL payment (2 at least from Netherlands) that are paying without the checkout fields validating (not all required fields completed). The result is that customer has his bank account charged, the order fails (we don’t even get the order on hold or something) and the money aren’t transfered to our paypal account (which is ok as the order failed but not ok as the customer was charged).

It seems to be a similar problem with being able to proceed to paypal even when the checkout fields validation fails but with the IDEAL payments is even more serious as the customere gets charged. Unfortunately we are not even able to check that as in Greece IDEAL payments aren’t available. Please fix that! Additionaly is there away to setup our paypal account not to offer the IDEAL payments option?

  • God!! That is exactly what I had experienced. I couldn’t have described it better than you.

You know what? I just looked at the “Hide Funding Sources” entry of PayPal Checkout.

It has iDEAL. I just added it. Maybe this would solve the problem.

Hi, how do you mark this as resolved? You never answered to that!

    Hi @jalev,

PayPal loads the alternative payment methods depending on the user location but they can be individually hidden with the mentioned setting: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/#disable-APMs

The validation behavior will be improved in a future update, but the final capture call is only made once the order has been created in WooCommerce.
Alternative payment methods such as iDeal are push payments, so it will debit the customer’s bank account as soon as they have authorized/approved the payment.
If this payment is not captured though, it will be refunded automatically after 3 hours. Depending on the bank, the buyer should see the refund in a few days as SEPA transactions take a day to process.
For alternative payment methods, it is also essential that the webhooks are registered: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/#webhook-status
But as long as no order is created in WooCommerce, the customer did not correctly complete the payment process and will not be (permanently) charged.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

Thanks for the reply. I did hide the IDEAL method but still it’s really important to fix the official Paypal Woocommerce plugin problem that ignores checkout validation.
