Icons not showing with shortcode
-
hi
I have configured and saved all the settings deciding to use the shortcode on my pages and posts.
The shortcode is saved in the editor – yet the icons are not showing on the website neither on posts nor on pages.
coould you please advise what’s seems to be the problem.
thanks

Could you please clear cache? By that, I mean…
– The browser cache, see https://www.solutionbay.com/solutions/dont-know-how-to-clear-the-cache-1
– Please also check if you have a cache plugin installed. If so, please disable it temporarily, and check if it’s ok nowhi @socialdude
I have cleared the cache.
Now I have also have a new problem:
I changed the display option to: show under each post – to see what happens.
1. The icons were different to the ones I selected
2. They appeard only on posts – not pages. I have BOTH posts and pages and need my social share to appear on both.
3. As I didn’t want that selection, I changed the settings back to the shortcode and unticked Under each post. Saved the section and the settings. Cleared the cache. Yet the icons were still there. I have tried several times – in the end I had to deactivate the plugin.I have 37 posts and 11 pages (plus Woocommerce Store and product pages).
Ideally, I would like my social share icons (ideally responsive labels) to show at the bottom of every post and page and placing the shortcode manually will be very time consuming.
(I understand that WC store and product pages are only covered in the premium plugin, so that’s fine).I don’t want them floating, as floating icons are obscuring the screen on mobile devices. I don’t want in a widget, either. I need them on both my posts and pages. If I have to, I will insert the shortcode manually – but it is not showing.
Could you please advise (as there is very little explanatory information in the plugin) how can install your plugin on my site.
thanks
hi @socialdude
More issues:
– I have deactivated the plugin.
– Cleared both website and browser caches.
– activated the plugin
– ensured that Show under Post option is UNCHECKED
– saved everything
– opened the same post – your responsive icons were still there!
– I had to deactivate the plugin again to CLEAR those icons I don’t want from my postAnother issue:
– I selected Instagram icon.
– there was no section for me to put in my account details
– I don’t have an instagram account yet, but these icons are for people to share, not to visit my account, so it shoudn’t matter
– when I saved the settings, got an error message: “Wrong Instagram url”
– I was not asked to put in the instagram details
– I had to remove Instagram in order to save the settings.could you please advise.
PS when I googled this issue, I found several posts on this forum about the same issue – icons are not showing.
It looks like there is an error in your shortcode.
Could you please re-write the shortcode from scratch, test it and post it here?
thanks
Please open one thread per issue, thank you!
Let’s discuss the issue of icons not showing in this thread. So far, it always worked out fine in the end. On which page (url) did you place the shortcode specifically?
ok
on every post and page.
You can’t check this now, as I had to deactivate your plugin due to the persistent showing of the responsive icons on my post in spite of changing the settings and clearing the cache.
I’m sorry but THIS issue is related to the icons error.
So perhaps we should start with:
How to remove the responsive icons from my post so that I can reactivate the plugin.?thanks
hi @socialdude
The plot thickens.
I have moved the testing to my staging site, and when looking for new plugins I found the Ultimate Social Media Icons PLUS plugin. It looks like this is a different version of the same plugin (yours) I have been trying to install on my main site. The configuration is a bit different (better) – and the shortcode works!!
Why didn’t you tell me about this PLUS version of your plugin, which (given the many issues with the original one) I guess is the current and properly working version to download?…
in addition, in THIS PLUS plugin description, it says:
List of platforms supported in the free plugin:
Facebook share icon
Twitter share icon
Email icon
RSS icon
Instagram share icon
Youtube share icon
Pinterest share icon
LinkedIn share icon
Houzz share icon
OK icon
Telegram icon
VK icon
WeChat icon
Weibo icon
Share icon (allows your visitors to share your site on over 200+ other social media sites; powered by addthis/sharethis)However, in the plugin settings the SHARE icon is missing.
could you please explain the descrepancy and how to get this Share icon.
Otherwise, I’m happy with your PLUS version which now I can install on my live site.
thanks
one more thing – even when the alignment of the icons is selected as CENTER they still show left aligned. (after purging the cache)
There is no information that the alignment is only for the Premium version and this setting is active in the free version.
could you please advise.
hi @socialdude
sorry for the additions, but I’m discovering things as I go along ??
In summary:
I have now installed the PLUS version of your plugin where the shortcode does work. There are still two outstanding issues:
1. The Share button is missing in the settings (while listed in the free plugin description)
2. The positionings of the icones RIGHT and CENTRE do not work. The icons are always located on the LEFT. This is importnat as I’d like to position the icones at the top of the pages / posts on the RIGHT. (top right corner).Could you please advise how to fix these two issues.
many thanks

This thread is about the icons from shortcode not showing, so responding to that. For the other issues, please open new threads (one thread per issue).

Because the shortcode works fine in this plugin too. If it doesn’t, it’s most likely related to your theme. We can further debug this, but as you discovered that it works in the other one, probably no need anymore.
ok, thanks.
