I’ve used this plugin for months and everything was fine, but the recent WordPress 5.5 update might have broken it: the “insert code” icon in the classic editor to visually add the code block is not being shown anymore.

It’s worth noting that the plugin is still working, if I manually add the <pre> block with the proper class the result is ok: the issue seems only related to the Classic Editor icon not showing up anymore.

NOTE: I’ve tried to install the JQuery Migrate compatibility plugin since it has been reported it’s needed to fix a number of similar WP 5.5 update bugs, but that didn’t fix it.

Strange, but in my classic editor block I can see the plugin button. Can you give me more details? As I think you totally don’t use Gutenberg, only Classic Editor plugin. Am I right?

I can confirm the same result in WP 5.6. I am using the Classic Editor plugin and the Code icon does not appear. Same thing as OP, too, where using

    pre

tags still get formatted as expected on the front-end.

If I toggle to the Block editor and the TinyMCE editor appears, the code icon is there.

    Thanks for your help!

    2.8.16 should fix it.
