ical export doesn’t work if there are no events

  • Hi,

    The button to export ical disappears if there are no upcoming events, and already configured clients throw errors such as “Could not parse iCalendar”.

    We use this plugin to manage monthly seminars for a small group at our university. Students are expected to subscribe to this calendar, even when there are no upcoming events (yet). Also existing subscribers get confused about the errors.

    Could this plugin include an option to maintain the export ical functionality even when there are no upcoming events?

    Thank you for getting in touch. I am unable to reproduce the issue on my end. Can you please share a direct link to the page where you encounter this? On my end, the iCal button still shows, however, can’t export anything since it is empty.

    Additionally, I would reach out to our team if it is possible subscribing to a calendar without any upcoming events. Get back to you as soon as I hear from them.

    Hi @javiertilburg, I was able to replicate the issue of having no upcoming events on my test site. The subscribe button or links disappears, but it doesn’t show any warnings or errors.

    This looks like a bug in our plugin, minus the warning. I already created an internal bug ticket (BTRIA-1876) for this and added your case. Thanks for all the details. I will pass it along to our devs. I am unable to provide an exact date or time estimate for when this bug will be fixed, but you’ll be notified when there are any updates.

    Also, regarding the feature to subscribe to an empty calendar, we do not have a function available to accomplish this. I encourage and recommend you to add it as a feature request at this link: https://evnt.is/ideas. This would help us track users needing this feature.

    If you do have other concerns or issues you need help with, please create another ticket, as it helps us track different issues.
