  • okay, i’ll give you the run down on what i know so far.

    i registered my domain name with godaddy (duh)
    which is being hosted with dreamhost
    through which i connected it to wordpress using their “one-click” install

    i also downloaded firezilla because the internet told me so.

    i can connect to my website using the whole https://www.mysite/wp-admin deal, through which i can add posts, change theme, etc.

    i guess my problem is, i can edit my blog, so i’m confused as to what i need to do next? why do i need to “download wordpress 3.2.1” and then do the 5-minute install thing…what is that even doing?
    and the whole firezilla thing…i’m completely lost. i have no idea what i would use that for.

    i’m sorry i’m such a stupid noob, but i just feel lost at setting this whole thing up. i’m not looking to do much fancy stuff, just maybe create a template and start posting.

    help ??

    You don’t if you have already used a 1-click install. Not every host offers offers these scripts and some folk (like me) still prefer to manually install WordPress.

    Since you seem to have everything installed, just start blogging and customising your site.

    oh seriously?
    so i don’t need all this FTP and installation stuff? because i’m not a techy idiot and it’s over my head, so i’m scared! haha

    if i want to make my own theme…how would i do that?
    on the wordpress codex, it says that i can click “install themes” on the admin panel, but i don’t see that there.

    Not to get your site started, no. Bit I would suggest that you either learn to use FTP (or whatever file management application your host provides) as this is a really useful skill that can get you out of trouble sometimes.

    To make your own theme, you’d need to be able to code using PHP, HTML & CSS. See Theme_Development for any overview of what is needed. If you’re not a coder, then you could just choose from the hundreds of free, pre-made, themes that are available. In Appearance -> Themes, select the Install Themes tab.
