• I had a designer completely redesign my current website, which is https://www.magiccitymedia.com.

The only problem is, the guy who was supposed to program it, never did.

I heard you can use Word Press to build a website, but I’m not really good at these things, so I was wondering if I could hire somebody.

I would need to be able to easily update the site with new articles, videos and photos.

I would also like to embed my blog, https://www.carlosmiller.com, on the home page. There is already a section for it.

So what do you guys say?

  • i recommend reading the forum rules ?? They’re outlined here:

    F: Paying for services
Requesting paid help is discouraged. We do not want to give any impression that WordPress help is anything but free. We also do not need bidding wars in the forums.
If you have posted some contact information your thread will be closed.
If you have not posted that information we will ask you to and when you do the thread will be closed.
Any thread that offers any service for money can be closed at any time. We are not against paid services but these forums are not the right place for them.
We have a WP-Pro mailing list which you are encouraged to use.

    Isn’t that entrapment?

im sorry? You want to pay someone to help you — the ppl that own this domain and run this forum want you to leave an email address, so that THIS forum isnt used as sales tool and that kind of stuff can be handled elsewhere.

thats not entrapment, thats them asking you politely to follow a standard for how things around here work. The Internet isnt a democracy. You dont HAVE to ask for anything here if you dont want to — there are other sites on the WWW.

Btw, it’s one thing to toss about ideas about hiring someone, and another to solicit a hiring. If you were just tossing about the idea, thats fine — your post doesnt read that way though.

Hiring someone, generically speaking is fine, as long as you manage to find someone that isnt a self professed expert that really doesnt know much, and there are plenty of them around. WordPress is a cash cow, and lots of ppl use bull**** to get the cash.

Find someone that doesnt, yes I said, DOES NOT do design work. 80% of ppl that claim to design web sites dont know WP or PHP, and a fair amount of them end up here asking questions about “their client’s” sites.

Also, being able to slice a .psd doesnt make you WP savvy either. Wayyyy too many people think because they can make pretty graphics, they can put together a WP site — there is no correlation.

In other words, find someone that knows code. Code code and more code. And look at their own site, make sure it validates.

To keep this thread from becoming yet another tangle, if you want someone to contact you about paid work on your (WP-enabled) web site, a method of contact would sort of be prudent, don’t you think?

Once you’ve provided that method, this thread will be closed (per the rule whooami notes above).

    Guys,

I didn’t know about the rules of soliciting.

And I misinterpreted the part about leaving your email address as a way to give moderators an excuse to shut the thread down.

The way I interpreted it is that the rules were saying to go ahead and break the rules, so we’ll shut the thread down.

My email address is carlosmiller at magiccitymedia dot com

Thank you. The thread will now be shut down, not because you broke any rules, but because we do not want discussion about help-for-pay on this forum. With your contact info posted, people can contact you privately.
