I wanted to give more stars but…

  • I really wanted to give this plugin more stars but I just cannot. While the functionality is varied and it is easy to use it is also incomplete and not well thought out.

    You need to add custom CSS to customize the font colors and background colors as it inherits the font colors from the parent but the background is white. If you are using a dark theme like I am the font doesn’t show up.

    The browse and search boxes size and move around the screen funny and I have to go digging in the css to figure out how to fix it.

    The biggest issues though and the reason for the 2 star review are:

    1) Their support is absolutely abysmal. I paid for their pro version and expect to have my support emails to them responded to within 24 hours (industry standard). It has been 3 days and still not a peep.

    2) There is a major hole in functionality. You cannot by default show a list of categories on the home/recipe page nor can you show one on the category pages. According to the forum you have to write your hook for this. This makes it much harder to design an intuitive user flow for site users.

    The things I do like and the reason I paid the money to buy it is that:

    Nutritional info is available, recipes are easy to add

    There is user profile functionality (though I have yet to enable it and I am praying that I can drip content with it).

    • I plan on adding “Dark Theme” mode soon that will take care of that first issue you mentioned.
    • Most likely this is just some theme conflict with the css. I’m happy to help you fix this, no need to dig into the CSS yourself. Just shoot me your URL and I can take a look.
    1. So sorry about the support response. I’m writing you a response right after I finish with this one.
    2. Adding a categories list shortcode is something I would like to do very soon. I love the idea and it’s definitely something I overlooked during development.

    Thanks again for the feedback. 2 stars or not, it’s very valuable for the continued improvements to the plugin. My hope is that I can turn this rating from a 2 to a 5 very soon!
