Hello. I thought I was getting it, but then… After a couple of tries, I deleted my pages and started again. I create four pages and somehow figured out how to adjust the nav menu. Then added a site logo, some text below and social icons. Turned all the backgrounds to white/text to black so I can see what I am doing. I make changes to the footer: add logo, social icons, general text.

I viewed the pages – ok. So proud! Then I go to add content to the home page: a simple pattern with image and some text. Not bad. Save the work and view… oops the bird is there. I’m thinking it must be part of a template… but which one? Then I look through the header and footer templates and template parts… can’t find anything that looks like the previous work I had done. So frustrated.

I removed the bird image on the page? template. Update and look at the home page and the previous header? title? I inserted has reverted to the “The Hatchery… blah… blah…” blurb.

I don’t get it. Why can’t I find the header or footer I modified? There are some repeat names of Header (dark, large); Page (Large Header); Footer.

I’d appreciate being pointed in the right direction, or if I should use a theme that is literally for a beginner. Thanks!

  • The Bird is in the Template parts on the header. You can go to Template parts click on the bird image and delete and update. It should be gone.

I’m not completely clear on your issues right now, because the way you worded this is a little bit confusing for me. But if you’re not sure why the site isn’t showing changes you made, or why it isn’t using the correct files, you may want to learn more about the template hierarchy. Sometimes WordPress will pull unexpected templates – like if you’re on the homepage, it will automatically use front-page.php.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to use Elementor to build the site following a lesson by WebYoda. Done and I’m making adjustments/playing with different options.

I really appreciate the time you took to guide me.
