I want rectangular thumbnails not squares

  • Please help!

    I’ve read other threads about this topic but can’t seem to get them to work for me or they don’t seem to apply to our version.

    I want our product image thumbnails to appear as rectangles with the whole of the original image showing. As you can see on our ‘Products’ page at https://www.mathewmurray.com.au some of the saddle images are rectangular (have no idea how I managed this) and that is how I’d like all the images to appear as it looks ridiculous when the product is displayed as a square.

    Appreciate any help.

  • In your dashboard go to Settings > Media and untick the “crop thumbnails to exact dimensions” option.

    You will then need to rebuild your thumbnails but you can do that by installing the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin

    1. Go to Dashboard-Settings->Media
    2. Here you can specify height and width of thumbnail.

    Thank you but I’ve tried that and it doesn’t seem to work. Can’t understand why it doesn’t.

    Does it work on existing pictures or do I need to upload new ones?

    WordPress creates thumbnail images when you upload the image so changing the settings afterwards will not change the existing thumbs. You can re-upload the images which will work but the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin I suggested before will rebuild the existing thumbnails to the new media settings.
