• Hi,

I am new to the forum so I hope I get this out right and I’m not repeating anything. I have searched and found no help on this topic although I have found a lot about the opposite situation…

See, most people want to get rid of a scrollbar if their theme (or whatever) produces one due to the post/page being longer than it’s set up for. I actually want to create a scrollbar for the body of most of my pages…

I am currently using a theme that is good in terms of navigation but not quite what I want in terms of design. The theme I am currently using is Sakura 1.1. It has navigation links in a right sidebar. The theme I want to use is Japanese Cherry Blossom, based on Hemingway. The look is more what I’m going for but the navigation links are in a bar at the bottom of the page. Since most of my pages are pretty long, it’s inconvenient to scroll down through the whole page to get to the nav. links…

I would like it if the bottom nav. bar was set (and thus the body set as well) such that for long pages, a scrollbar could be used for the user to access all of the content in the page. Therefore, the nav. bar would always appear and if a user just wanted to go to another page without viewing all of the content, they don’t have to scroll through it to get to the nav. links. Am I making any sense??

To see the theme I’m currently using and the length of my pages, visit PfeifferRogers.com and to see the theme I want to use, visit AnnaPfeiffer.com. Hopefully you’ll see what I mean. I love the way the Coda website scrolls and would like something like that but it might be too complex – a simple scrollbar would be enough!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some help!
    Anna

Just to clarify, I know how to accomplish this with stupid tricks in the pages’ content, etc. but I want to simply add “overflow:scroll;” and “height:xxpx;” to the proper section in the theme’s css. However, the theme has over 5 css docs – that’s right, 5! I’m guessing that about 70% of this theme’s code is useless, which why I’m thinking about not using it anyhow. Even after I identify what seems to be the “master css” the coding and the sections are written so that you can’t tell what anything is or what it applies to. When I changed the css in my current theme, it was a piece of cake and worked fine. But I can’t tell what is the “main” or “body” section of this theme’s css!! If you have worked with this theme before, you might be able to help… Or if you’re a WordPress expert! Please please help! I don’t want to get the code even more jumbled than it already is ??

I don’t know which browser you use, but since most people use IE, I’m going to link you to the IE Developer Toolbar. Once installed and enabled (View/Explorer Bar/IE Developer Toolbar) it will be easy to hover your mouse around and see which elements are which, and identify them by name.

Thanks! Don’t use IE full-time but I still have it so I’ll check out the toolbar you suggested. Again, thanks ??
