• I’ve been looking for a new theme so I’ve installed and deleted a lot. My previous theme didn’t use a custom header, but I want to use one now. Only problem is when I uncheck “show header text” it won’t save that way, and ends up writing on my custom header. I uncheck, hit save, and the box is checked again. This has happened across themes. I’ve deactivated all the plugins, re-installed WordPress using their automatic installer. I imagine there’s a CSS workaround, but I haven’t settled on a theme yet and would really like to fix the root problem.

  • Not all themes will allow you to use a custom header so you may be trying to solve an issue that you will not have to deal with. I would figure out the theme you want first then go from there. A theme I’m working on right now does not even have that as an option. Problem solved.

    What’s your URL?

graphical_force, I want a theme with a custom header now. I thought about just letting it go, but that’s not my style. ??

So you are using the theme Basically. This is the theme that you want to use? And you are saying that when you uncheck Show Header Text, it still shows. So this is unique to this theme then correct? If so, then this is an issue with the theme itself. Just trying to focus on the issue at hand.

It’s not just this theme. It’s happening across all themes where I have an option to uncheck the box. So when I uncheck the box it doesn’t save. It pops right back to checked when I hit the save button.

So, I just checked using wp 3.5.1 with Twenty Twelve 1.1 with no plugins installed and I have no issues. In your case, it should removed the name of the site as defined by the Site Title and Tagline in the General settings. It will not remove the text on the image since that is actually part of the image.

Try deactivating all your plugins and switching to the twentytwelve theme.

OMG, it worked with Twenty Twelve! I’ve gone through probably a dozen different themes where it didn’t work. It’s still doing it with other themes, so obviously the core issue is still there. I can work with Twenty Twelve, though, so maybe I’ll just leave it for now. I certainly don’t want to mess with trying to do a total clean/reinstall. I think that’s above my head.

    Thanks for your help.

No problem. Just for the record, it is not a core issue because you would see it if it were. The issue lies with the themes that you are using.
